Joshua (Josh) Wyman is a psychological consultant specializing in assessment and intervention with children, adolescents and their families. He has recently completed his PhD in School and Applied Child Psychology at McGill University (to be granted in October 2019); he also has a Master of Arts from the same program. Josh has experience working in school, hospital and private clinic settings working with children, youth and families. Namely, he was a school psychology doctoral intern at Summit School in Montreal, where he provided assessment, therapy, crisis intervention and consultation services to children and youth with a range of developmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Downs Syndrome and Intellectual Disabilities. Later, he completed two additional school psychology doctoral placements in Pittsburgh at the Quaker Valley School District and the Children’s Institute. In these settings he continued to provide a range of psychological services to children and youth, such as those experiencing challenges related to ADHD, learning disabilities, anxiety, depression, suicidality, trauma and social interaction. In addition to his clinical experience, Josh has published work in highly regarded scientific journals that have discussed best practice methods for questioning children about traumatic events, as well as papers on the efficacy of social skills group therapy with youth diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Intellectual Disabilities.
Josh employs a strength-based approach whereby he emphasizes on helping his clients identify personal strengths and positive attributes to help them to overcome their challenges. He also utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness strategies in his therapy with children, adolescents, parents and families. His areas of expertise include learning disabilities, giftedness, attention, hyperactivity and impulsivity problems, trauma, depression, anxiety, social and behavioural difficulties, school adjustment, and parenting concerns. Furthermore, Josh has experience providing therapy to children and youth with limited verbal functioning.
