Clinical Manager

Dr. Carol Root is the Clinical Manager of the Chrysalis Centre. Having completed her master’s degree and doctorate in the School and Child Clinical Psychology Program at the University of Toronto (OISE), Dr. Root is a registered psychologist with a wide variety of clinical experiences. She has worked as a staff psychologist for the Hospital for Sick Children Neuropsychiatry Team, Kinark Child and Family Services, and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, and as a psychological consultant for research projects, day treatment programs, residential facilities, and to school staff and community mental health professionals. Over the years, Dr. Root has provided clinical supervision and training to numerous psychology students, interns, psychiatry residents, and mental health agencies. Dr. Root is an accredited member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario and the Ontario Psychological Association.

At the Chrysalis Centre, Dr. Root is currently conducting psycho-educational and psycho-diagnostic evaluations with children and youth aged 6 to 18. She takes a strength-based,therapeutic assessment approach with all of her clients, with a focus on engagement and flexibility. Importantly, children and teens are encouraged to work at their own pace so that they may demonstrate their full potential. Areas of expertise include learning styles/disabilities, cognitive giftedness, attention and impulsivity challenges, depression, anxiety, social/behavioural difficulties, high functioning autism, school adjustment, and parent consultation. In addition to her clinical work at the Chrysalis Centre, Dr. Root also provides therapeutic services to children, youth, and parents at her private practice in west Toronto.
