She completed her predoctoral internship at BC Child and Youth Mental Health (Victoria BC), where she specialized in providing community-based mental health services to youth and their families, including immigrant families and First Nations communities.
Ameeta has worked with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families with varying presenting concerns, including depression and other mood disorders, anxiety disorders, self-harm and suicidality, eating disorders, low self-esteem, trauma and abuse, addictions, grief and loss, life transitions, parenting concerns, relationships and attachment concerns, cultural and gender identity issues, and emotion regulation difficulties among others. She has worked in various settings including school-based, hospital outpatient, community mental health and a nonprofit social service agency. This diverse experience has given her a solid understanding of how to effectively deliver treatment and collaborate across systems. She has also worked as a school psychologist in several GTA school boards, most recently the York Catholic DSB, which has given her a thorough understanding of learning disabilities and school-based mental health.
Ameeta practices from a strengths-based, trauma-informed and social justice framework that honours the inherent wisdom within each person. She believes in meeting clients where they are and empowering them to make the changes they desire in their life. While she is trained in several therapeutic approaches (such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, motivational interviewing, and Emotion Focused Therapy), mindfulness informs all her work. Ameeta has developed and adapted mindfulness-based therapeutic groups for parents, teens and children. She also regularly provides training and consultation to educators and mental health professionals in mindfulness and stress management. Ameeta believes in continuous self-reflection, growth and mentorship, and is dedicated to ongoing personal and professional development.
